Letter to mom

Dear Momma: Do you know what the best part of coming to CT is for me? It's not the smell of salt water pervading through my window as I pull into the driveway, it's not seeing regular sized people with moderate sportswear from last season walking around like they know a thing or two about fashion and it's not getting to see "New Release" movies in Niantic for a fraction of the cost in New York even though you may think otherwise. For me, what really makes me love coming home is seeing you. I love to see you after you just napped and your eyes wizen to the sight of my face looking back at yours. You tell me in your sweet butter creme voice, "Honey, it's good to see you." And at that moment my heart beats a little slower, I breathe better, the sky is powder puff blue, the trees bristle, a child is laughing, and all is well with the world. Do you know that even without a shower you smell like fresh picked flowers? And did you know that your skin is so strangely soft that I have to sit down because I become winded from its smoothness? You are without a doubt one of the most extraordinarily beautiful people I know. And what astounds me is your patience. You are brave and courageous, and even though you get frustrated you remain this patient, ever so humble, ever so easy going beautiful person. How could anyone not fall in love with you? You have such a grace about you. Are you adopted? LOL! I'm just kidding. I remember when you'd be cleaning dishes as I did my homework. I could have picked anywhere in the house to do my school work, but you were in the kitchen, and I loved being there with you. Some of my best material for writing started from my times with you in the kitchen. You had the actor's ability to make me feel like every word I read aloud was "amazing", "poetic", and "brilliant". Your words not mine. You were the reason I loved to write. You made me feel like I could do no wrong. You'd lift my spirits, bake me something yummy, and give me all your attention. It was disarming. I have discovered in life that there are not many people like you and that's a hard fact to swallow. You are a wonderful mom and a wonderful friend. I am glad you are at Bridebrook getting the care and attention you need. I hope all is okay over there and that you know we all love you very, very much. I also hope you are getting to know other people and are able to share your wisdom and kindness with others. Those people should feel very blessed to be in the same place you are. As quoted by Paul Childs to Julia Childs at a dinner party, ""You are the butter on my bread and the breath to my soul. I love you darling girl." With all the love in my heart, Your daughter, Karen I love you.
